Here are pictures of the cover of the special edition “The Build Structure and Nomenclature of a Traditionally Constructed Concertina”.

Cover Nomenclature version 6 Cover Nomenclature version 6

“Begun as an idea to write a “Concertina Parts for Dummies” to explain all the parts in the concertina since there are many larger and smaller parts in the instrument. When David Elliott was asked to check this and add to it he offered to rewrite it as “Nomenclature”. This has become a very useful little manual.

As a professional engineer David has a lot of experience in technical writing and has been repairing and playing concertinas since he first inherited his great-uncle Harry’s concertina. Thus David was the best person to have been asked.”

This manual is part of the “Welcome Pack” for new memers of the ICA.

Becoming a member

We have experienced problems with some UK members writing out cheques to the “ICA” despite the latest application and renewal forms saying they should write “International Concertina Association” in full. Please note that cheques must be be made out to the International Concertina Association.

New members will receive a Welcome Pack comprising a Welcome Letter, membership card and some past issues of Concertina World and Music Supplement (in hard copy form whilst available). Any new member not receiving an acknowledgement within six weeks following payment please contact the Membership Secretary via email at membership@concertina.org or by post, quoting the payment date, payment method, payment reference number, amount paid in English pounds, membership type and residence (e.g. Ordinary Membership, USA Resident) and full name and address.

UK membership joining/renewal

UK members please note: the ICA prefers payment by standing orders, online bank transfers or cheques in that order. However if you pay by standing order please make an immediate one-off payment followed by annual payments starting on the first day of the following year and ascertain that we receive your full name, address and if possible membership number (see below). The bank does not automatically provide this information The ICA bank account details are on this web page and also on the front inside cover of Concertina World.

All members joining or renewing membership by standing order or by electronic means such as online transfer (but not PayPal) please contact the Membership Secretary via email at membership@concertina.org or by post quoting the payment date, payment method, payment reference number, amount paid in English pounds, membership type and residence (e.g. Ordinary Membership, UK Resident), email and full postal addresses. This is currently the only way the ICA has of reliably knowing who has paid in this way. Emails please have as the subject: ICA Subscription for “Year” – “Your Name”.

Confirmation of payment

Those renewing by PayPay will receive an immediate confirmation email from PayPal itself. Those renewing by other forms of payment will have confirmation only through their own bank statements and will not receive an email from the ICA unless specifically requested, and then it could take up to six weeks as the ICA only gets monthly bank statements.
