The ICA library is a wonderful collection of music that has been especially written or arranged for the concertina. Much of the collection has come to the ICA through the generous donations of players and their families.  While the majority of the library dates from the 19th and early 20th Century, please don’t let this put you off as there are some wonderful tunes and arrangements for you to discover.

As you will see from the A-Z listings, we have music arranged for players of English (baritone, tenor and tenor-treble) and duet systems; we also have some arrangements for playing in parts. Anglo players can often play arrangements for the English concertina, but Duet pieces can be more difficult as they are written in both the treble and bass cleff.

Over the coming months, I will be adding to the library as there is some amazing music waiting to be catalogued and included in the listings. I also hope to open up the library to you, by providing samples of music and possibly video and sounds clips – perhaps there are some volunteers who would be willing to let others know what library pieces sound like?

I would be particularly interested to receive member’s own compositions and arrangements and I would be very happy to profile them on these pages.

As Christmas is coming I’ve provided a few carols that I hope you will enjoy playing. I think carols sound particularly good on the concertina. When I was a child my grandfather would wake the family with his playing of “Christians Awake Salute the Happy Morn” on his Lachenal English and I’ve spent many evenings holding the music for my dad accompanying the local carol singers, so for me Christmas is not complete without a concertina!

If members of the ICA would like any copies of any of the music please feel free to email me and I will try to respond as soon as possible.
